Film Director
Sajal Samadder is an independent filmmaker and producer known for creating advertisement films and socially relevant creative projects. He began his career with ad films for brands like Vegetarian Valley, Khushi Detergent, and Gold Star Tea. Later, he expanded into making films on current social issues. He is empanelled as a Filmmaker by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, and currently works as a filmmaker/producer with several organizations under the Government of India.
Creative Works & Expertise
Painter
Organized several solo exhibitions in Kolkata’s leading galleries such as Academy of Fine Arts and Birla Academy. Participated in All India exhibitions including Lalit Kala Academy (New Delhi), Birla Academy and Academy of Fine Arts.
Public Art Works
Created portraits of Netaji Subhash Bose, Mahatma Gandhi and Rabindranath Tagore for Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Also painted Fazlul Haque during the India–Bangladesh Moitri celebration and worked on street children themes with Y.M.W.A and the Government of Holland.
Visualizer
Began career in advertising and worked with agencies like Rediffusion, Watershed Advertising, Reflection Advertising, F.S Advertising and Adunique 76. Created concepts and visual campaigns for several leading corporate clients.
Art Director
Entered the world of cinema as an Art Director and worked on several Bengali telefilms and award-winning documentaries such as “Fish Hunter”, “Char Bandhu” and “Aghat”.
Musician
Learned classical music from the renowned Pathak Gharana under Guru Pandit Binay Pathak and Pandit Pramodh Pathak. Assisted music director Binay Pathak in several Ghazal albums and Bengali film “Rangin Basanta”.
Writer & Novelist
Wrote articles on social issues along with stories and poems for magazines like Anuvop Potro, Sanlap, Nirajona, Nobokollol and Basumati. Published a popular novel titled “Mushkil Asaan”.
Filmmaker
Worked as associate director with Sanat Dasgupta, Bijon Chatterjee and Pallab Roy in several documentaries and TV productions including “The Fish Hunter” (BFJA Award), “Bijoya”, “Musolmanir Galpo” and “Basundhora”.
